Selected initiatives from ten villages in the Transylvanian Highlands (across Brasov, Sibiu, and Mures counties) were carefully documented for their ability to foster active, healthy communities—places where tradition, participation, and long-term vision converge in sustainable rural life WWF Romania+1.
These communities illustrate that a strong connection to history, traditional knowledge, and collective effort can create cohesive, resilient societies. Through shared visioning and inclusive local planning, these villages apply equitable governance practices that balance preservation of heritage with openness to adaptation and change WWF Romania.
Inspired by these examples, the PACT2020 project gathered a collection of community-driven experiences—stories of leadership, equity, and cultural pride—that serve as models for other rural areas seeking to replicate or adapt similar approaches WWF Romaniamihaieminescutrust.ro.
Ultimately, these active communities thrive through synergy—engagement with natural landscapes, shared cultural values, and inclusive processes—offering a blueprint for living well within both tradition and modernity WWF Romania+1.
